I like this doodle, the prince looks really nice but their heads are kinda big and they look a little too “clean.” Thumbelina looks like crap here.

Expression practice in copic markers. I didin’t edit this page because the blue lines kept disappearing, but now you can see Love Me Nice thumbnails underneath, hahaha.
She’s pretty cartoony but that’s growing on me. There’s another drawing I like just as much where she looks different, so its gonna be a matter of consolidating the two.
Trying to figure out how Thumbelina looks for this comic. The animals are going to be pretty realistic, but I don’t want Thumbelina to look like a perfectly scaled-down person… because she’s not a tiny human. She is an entirely different creature and tiny human proportions don’t make sense. She needs more bug-like proportions.
So trying to make her look like her own kind of creature without looking too distanced from a human, or too alien or too cartoony is going to be a challenge.
Trying something a little different. I don’t know, yet. I’d like to get better at environments.
A mill pond from the Nixie and the Mill-Pond (my fairy tale).
I’ve been invited to participate in a webcomic fairy tale anthology (you can read more about it on their tumblr here). My story is a Grimm Fairy tale called the Nixie of the Mill-Pond. I’ll give you three guesses why I picked that particular tale.
This is some real rough initial design work for the Nixie, the Hunstman, and the Huntsman’s Wife. There’s no dachshund in the story but I couldn’t resist giving the Hunstman one. Basically I was just going around and researching various 1800s German clothing and fashion and trying to incorporate it into the characters of the story.
fgggggllll I said I was going to bed, but the inspiration bug bit me. I wanted to get the costumes down and I ended up drawing several other sketches. This being one of them. I’m going to have too much fun drawing these two in the future.
